The easiest way to get there, in my opinion, is by plane. A lot of people take the train but often it turns out to be just as expensive. So a one hour flight is preferable to a four hour train journey! There are very cheap easy flights from easy jet from Stanstead so all you have to do is pack an overnight bag and take a morning flight. No check in needed if you are only staying for a night or two.
Now whilst in Edinburgh, it has to be said my favourite part was going to the elephant cafe (definitely recommended) where J.K Rowling wrote all the Harry Potter books! Great lunch food, often very busy but easy to get a table. The bathroom had graffiti over all the walls mostly messages to J.K Rowling.
Wonder through the streets of Edinburgh, you come across the most wonderful vintage shops.
Shopping is definitely a must in Edinburgh not only do you have the vintage shops but you have everything from high street shops (Topshop) to high end shops (Harvey Nichols).
During our wander through the streets we saw at least five bagpipe players, not really my taste but very interesting to listen to.
If you stay for more than a night I would also recommend a day trip to St Andrews. It's a beautiful little town (where Will and Kate met) and you can take a little wander down the beach or play golf on one of the most famous courses in the world. And of course if you are looking at Unis, this would be perfect to incorporate!
My friend and I taking a stroll down the beach in St Andrews.
It has to be said if you are looking for somwhere with warmth, Scotland is not the place to go! It was incredibly windy and cold when we went so pack your scarfs and coats!
A nice little arty shot of me looking out the plane, I think I was pondering where to go for dinner knowing me!
This post is just to get you thinking what to do in summer, city breaks are easy to book and are so much fun. It often also means cheap so start booking your city breaks.
